What does it really take to move from struggle to success? In my raw and unfiltered reflection on approaching the final year of my 30s, I open up about the unexpected challenges of navigating professional life while carrying the weight of my "hood" background. Despite earning my dental degree at 30, the following decade brought homelessness, financial hardship during residency, and the constant battle to break free from limiting mindsets that no credentials could automatically fix.
Day 4 of my year-long "Consistency Project" dives deep into what it means to show up for yourself when nobody's watching. I share my personal recipe for what I call "consistency soup" – equal parts delusional self-belief, gratitude for opportunities, creative problem-solving, and the discipline to appear even on the hardest days. This special blend creates the foundation for transformation that degrees and external validation simply cannot provide.
The neurological rewards of consistency become evident as I explain how showing up daily creates positive reinforcement in your brain, making each subsequent day slightly easier. "Nothing feels worse than dropping the ball on yourself," I emphasize, highlighting how this personal accountability becomes the true driver of lasting change. For anyone navigating challenging transitions, developing multiple income streams, continuous learning, and focusing on personal development aren't just suggestions – they're essential survival tools when conventional support systems aren't available.
Whether you're facing your own struggles or simply need motivation to remain consistent, this transparent look at professional growth from disadvantaged beginnings offers both practical wisdom and emotional understanding. Follow along with my 365-day journey of showing up "rain, sleet or snow," and discover how the small act of daily consistency can gradually transform your life's trajectory. What consistency project will you commit to today?
Thanks for listening and growing with me on this journey towards the ultimate level of success. #Hood2hooded #drshon #drshonconsistencyproject #consistencyproject

Just grow and show up. I want to just keep growing, whatever I do in life, just keep growing. And that can be a little tough. I really think that one of these days I want to talk about being 39. So I can give you young folks some advice about your 30s being in your 30s.
Speaker 1:As a professional, as a doctoral, I graduated dental school when I was 30 years old. The year that I turned 30 was the year I graduated dental school. My 30s has been all. Post-dental school Like New York has been my last 10 years. Dental school like new york has been my last 10 years living in new york, being a florida girl, learning how to be a new yorker. And new york is just so expensive. It's totally different from any other place, but just living in new york totally different.
Speaker 1:So my experience here in my 30s has been rough. One day we'll talk about homelessness and sleeping in the car and while being in a residency program and being broke and sick, and we'll talk about all that. But honestly, that's in my book but it doesn't hurt to just talk about it sometimes. Those were some tough days. That man 30s has been rough for me. Yes, as a doctor it has been truly rough, because I think people forget that the hood part is what makes it really hard. That's what really makes it hard to be disciplined and consistent. And I felt like what I feel like going through my 30s and being the last year in my 30s is the perfect time to do a consistency project and it's a perfect time to reflect on everything, because I feel like it just has been so tough for me and that hooded shit, or the hood shit, I really feel like it follows you everywhere until you actually break out of that mindset, break out of it completely. No amount of degrees can do it, no amount of other people can do it, no amount of money can do it. It just has to be a mindset shift. It really has to be a mindset shift. Money definitely helps with a lot of things, but it can also create problems. So in my 30s I feel like it was a mindset shift, but we're not going to talk about that tonight. I just wanted to hit on that really quickly.
Speaker 1:So you guys know that this hood-to-hood journey for me is really real. I don't just say that I, I really mean that. I know a lot of people look at me like, oh, this goody two-shoes silver spoon dentist and I just be like where y'all get that from? What do you get it from? That's why I go so hard. Now I'm still trying to break out of this hood. I'm still trying to do it Because you got to think, when it comes to familial support on this journey, I mean, oh, I'm so proud, are great, that's great, but it just takes so much more.
Speaker 1:And if you don't have that so much more, you're going to struggle. You're going to struggle, but one thing you can't do is quit. You can't quit. You heard me guys. You heard me gang, gang. You're gonna struggle, you're gonna struggle, but you can't quit, you cannot quit.
Speaker 1:So that's why having multiple streams of income, just trying all the things that you want to do, being unapologetic and just soaking up everything around you, learning, being creative, researching things that work, getting into your bag, developing your mind, focusing on self-help topics all of that is so crucial in your 30s. And I'm still talking about about being in 30s. But you know, I just had to touch on that because it hit me a little bit Like ooh, my last year being in my 30s and it's on to a whole new decade and I want to remember this. I want to be a part of spreading motivation and positive energy and good vibes to the world. I want to be a part of that. I world. I want to be a part of that. I really do want to be a part of that. So this is how you do it.
Speaker 1:You know, at the beginning of these videos, we talked about showing up when you're the only person in the room. Day four is a reflection of that. I am doing this live as the only person in the room. And then this is where you get a little bit of that consistency soup. Where you got a little bit of that consistency soup. Where you got a little bit of delusionalness. You got a little bit of gratitude Because you just showed up. You got a little bit of creativity. You got a little bit of show upness. You have this recipe For consistency suit that you're using to get you through those days where it's quiet. It's crickets, but you know, if you in the room, hey, we are our own biggest fan. Guys, remember that. To be your own biggest fan, stay inspired to love yourself and be unapologetic.
Speaker 1:One thing I didn't want to do was to let the day go by and not show up, because that means I would fail in this experiment, like literally, even if nobody else in the world knows that I failed the experiment, I will know, dang, I didn't show up yesterday and it's just gonna feel so bad when you drop the ball on yourself like nothing is worse than dropping the ball on yourself. Can you imagine that you're trying to do something and then you drop the ball on yourself every day? Nah, I ain't trying to be a part of that game. I'm trying to be a part of the game that show up for myself every day, regardless, regardless, you know, shoulders, back, head, head, high crown on confidence, on deck, proud, beaming with positive energy, beaming with motivation and unapologeticness, beaming with that show up in the spirit, beaming with a sense of peace and pride in who you are. Showing up for yourself every day. Look at you glowing, look at you using your consistency soup recipe, just glowing, and just look at you. Yeah, okay, so on that note, gang, gang, gang. I'll leave y'all with that.
Speaker 1:We showing up baby, rain, sleet or snow. We showing up Sunny or wet. We showing up Down and out. We showing up, like I was in that bed laying down, I said I got to show up, I got to get out of this bed. I got to show up. And when I show up, I got to get out of this bed. I got to show up and when I show up I feel better.
Speaker 1:The reward and punishment system. If I would not show up tonight, I would feel bad and that would be like a punishment in my brain. But the fact that I showed up tonight, that's like serotonin and dopamine being released like oh yes, it's like you checked out something that you want to do. In your brain it's like yes, so guess what? Each day is going to be a little bit easier to show up, do y'all agree or no, it's gonna be easier. So my so far, my hypothesis is working. It's a slow growth, but it's working and we have a whole 361 days left in this consistency project.
Speaker 1:Have a good night, my beautiful gang, my beautiful tribe. Have a wonderful, positive, motivating, inspired night, being consistent, brushing your teeth and flossing your teeth so the bed bugs don't bite. Make sure you go and stream my new song. Shut the fuck up. It's my birthday. Make sure you follow the replays on youtube. And, yeah, we turning up every day because dr sean is what all the way. Live dr sean is all the way live. Dr sean is all the way live. Dr sean is all the way live. We all the way light, we all the way light this ay. We all the way light Ay. We all the way light, all the way light Ay. We.
